Uranus Retrograde August 3rd 2017 January 2nd 2018.  28° 31′ Aries – 24°34′  Aries

You have one more chance to make peace with the wild and whacky Uranus- in- Aries energy during the upcoming retrograde period which begins August 3rd at 5:31 am UTC through January 2nd 2018 when it stations direct.  It’s time to redo, relive, and reflect upon the past seven years of Uranus in Aries action. With consciousness or not, you can integrate the learning of Uranus. Take what you wish and eliminate the rest.

Retrogrades aren’t a `bad time’ any more than a nap is.  If planets were persons then the retrograde periods would be the sleep cycle. During sleep your body rests while it reabsorbs nutrients, dreams (reflects) and literally reconfigures the brains’ neural capacity. So… it is with a retrograde period. Retrogrades are a time for reflection and reabsorption of any given planet’s meaning. Uranus the great enlightener, is the energy of change and chaos, eccentricity, electricity, and genius; you have a lot of interesting redo to do.

Recollect how your life has changed since March of 2011, when Uranus entered Aries for its’ seven-year journey. How have things changed? Fundamentally the transit has redefined ‘me’ in the context of `you.’ On a mundane level, the Uranus in Aries transit has shaken up the status quo of what makes us…human.

Aries is the I am presence; the sign of identity, ego and self-awareness. Uranus is all things `out there’; outer space, physics, science and technology, brilliant thinking, unusual behavior, genius, psychosis, invention and innovation. The marriage of Aries to Uranus over these past six years is reflected by the explosive popularity of the transhumanism movement. Transhumanism is loosely defined as the path to create a new improved form of human, with the intervention of cutting edge science and technology. The goal is the creation of an immortal human.

Transhumanism first emerged into consciousness roughly 84 years ago during the last junket of Uranus in Aries in 1931:

“Amazing Stories publishes “The Jameson Satellite,” a short story by Neil R. Jones, about a man whose corpse is sent into orbit, where it remains near absolute zero for millions of years until a race of cyborgs discovers it, defrosts its brain, and installs it in a robot’s body.”

It would seem this present transit of cutting edge Uranus in the sign of identity, Aries, catapulted interest in transhumanism. Consider this 2014 Huffington Post article written three years into the transit;

“Three years ago, we had only around 400 members, but today we have over 10,000 members,” says Amanda Stoel, co-founder and chief administrator of Facebook group Singularity Network, one of the largest of hundreds of transhumanist-themed groups on the web.”

Transhumanism embraces the application of technology (Uranus) to create an improved, or, immortal human. Since the transit, extraordinary feats abound. For example, science can download a person’s memory into a computer for future implantation into robots, the military has developed `telepathy helmets’ whereby soldiers can read comrades’ thoughts from a distance. Nanotechnology, cryogenics robotics all converge to suggest that the future is one of trans-ition.

Who are you? At birth you were declared to be a boy, or, a girl. The attending medical personal don’t declare, ` a human!’ to the being born. The first quality of identity is that of gender. Yet, since Uranus has made it’s shift into Aries, the gender lines have blurred. We have seen the emergence of gender politics arise in consciousness. At the 2012 American Sociology Association meeting in Denver, a theme explored was a world without gender;

Judith Lorber gave an invited presentation at the opening plenary: “Gender Equality: Utopian and Realistic.”[18] She also presented an invited paper, “Toward a World Beyond Gender: A Utopian Vision,” with Barbara J. Risman and Jessica Holden Sherwood.”

Celebrity Bruce Jenner officially transitioned to female Caitlin in 2015; In 2016 Laverne Cox was the first transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy and  Anohni was the first person to be considered for an Oscar in both the male or female category.

Giving birth has long been the domain of women. No longer. On July 14th 2017 a baby boy, was born to Trystan Reese, a transgender male, and his partner Biff Chaplow .

What is striking about the transgender movement is the critical role science, medicine and technology plays in the shifting of sexual identity. Trystan Reese `looks’ male because of the hormones he consumes. Without the science (Uranus), gender identity (Aries), could not be as fluid.

Uranus is the rule breaker, the energy which aims at authenticity without allegiance to a perceived status quo. The astronomical Uranus reflects the odd nature of its archetypal meaning. It is the only planet which orbits the sun from a sideline position!  It also rotates clockwise, unlike the other planets (except Venus) which spin counterclockwise. The maverick, Uranus is associated with rebellion, revolution and `power to the people’.

As the Uranus in Aries transit picked up momentum so did a political populist movement, the conservative `Tea Party’;

“The Tea Party movement is composed of a loose affiliation of national and local groups that determine their own platforms and agendas without central leadership. The Tea Party movement has been cited as an example of grassroots political activity.”

The `Tea Party’ seemed to be reminiscent of a Uranus-based group; power to the people, anger towards a centralized government etc. In sharp contrast to the political ideology of the `Tea Party’ movement is the present `Resist Movement’ made up of Americans disconnected from the present Trump administration. What’s common to both movements—is—the anger; an Aries quality, accentuated by the revolutionary spirit of Uranus.

Uranus is at the outermost boundary of Aries as it retrogrades; 29 degrees. This is the sabian symbol of `Music of the Spheres’ suggesting you `listen’ to the voice within, and without! Meanwhile, 29 degrees of Aries is making a conjunction to a `way out’ fixed star, Vertex, at 27 degrees Aries, in the constellation Andromeda. Andromeda is the symbol of the `chained woman’ emphasizing a most difficult and horrific plight:

“The man whose birth coincides with the rising of Andromeda from the sea will prove merciless, a dispenser of punishment, a warder of dungeon dire; he will stand arrogantly by while the mothers of wretched prisoners lie prostrate on his threshold, and the fathers wait all night to catch the last kisses of their sons and receive into their inmost being the dying breath… Andromeda herself is fettered to the rock. [Manilius, Astronomica, 1st century A.D., Book 5, p.351.]

Planets conjunct Vertex, can stimulate issues involving mental illness, in particular psychosis. Notably, doctors are now offering DNA testing to people who suffer from mental illness to match the medicine to the disease structure. Perhaps this retrograde at the degree of Vertex may trigger more attention to healing the mentally ill; people whose minds are `imprisoned.’

With the retrograde comes a `time out’ period of reflection, to help you internalize the essential learning of the past six years, wherever Uranus has been transiting in your chart. It’s a time to access your `inner genius’, your essential self and connect with your higher self. Overall, the call of Uranus in Aries asks us to define what it means to be human and what it means to be `you.’ The following offers some suggestions;

Aries: Use the retrograde period to articulate your personal unique qualities and gifts. Dive into your inner self so it may shine outwardly in 2018.

Taurus: Reflect upon your experience of the divine. How can you ground your personal spiritual practices so they become routine in 2018?

Gemini: Reflect upon your changing `tribe’: friends, groups and associations. Resolve to spend time with authentic like-minded associates in 2018.

Cancer: Reconsider your standing in the world. How has your leadership style shifted? Resolve to make your career in 2018 a reflection of you!

Leo: How can you keep the impulse alive in 2018 to learn, travel and expand your horizons?

Virgo: Reflect on your ability to embrace true psychological and spiritual power. What steps can you take in 2018 to continue the self-growth?

Libra: How can you allow your partners to be free without losing connection? How can you develop unconditional love in 2018?

Scorpio: Reflect upon ways to strengthen your applied technology skills in your work. How can you work more independently in 2018?

Sagittarius: Celebrate your creative genius and impulse to break out of routine. How can you authentically `play’ more in 2018?

Capricorn: Declare your independence from your family. How can you deeply love your family while maintaining detachment in 2018?

Aquarius: Spend time in dialogue with yourself. Know your mind and feel free to express it more honestly in 2018.

Pisces: Explore ways to cement financial independence. Plan for income producing projects in 2018.

Essentially the retrograde Uranus period offers us each a chance to integrate the extraordinary changes within–and without– which were triggered by the genius planet transiting in the sign of `I am’ since 2011.
