Seven locks of hair hewn to a rugged stubble; both eyes gouged and blooded, a legacy of the betrayal; his head bowed by weakened hOpe; his heart aching and his body writhing in pain; blinded by his thoughts and emotions, trapped in a prison of darkness, thrice bound, he is led before an intoxicated hoard, indifferent to his plight and relishing the advent of a fleeting moment of titillation – the highlight of their insignificant day.

Mulling over those jiving serpentine words – “how canst thou say ‘I love thee’ when thine heart is not with me? Thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lies” – words alluringly spoken from those delicate lips, whilst held in a seductive embrace. Consumed with yearning and hunger, the rising heat driving him crazy with temptation, he rolled the dice and spoke intimately of private things that should not have been uttered.

How could he have let himself become so focused on desire that was blinded from the deeper reality of the whispered truth? Ruled by his ego, unable to hear the droning tone of spirit, bound by fetters of brass, he has been trapped within his own prison walls and the repetitious circuit of grinding stone around and around.

Tilting his head back exposing two blooded voids to the heavens, he searches and listens. Quietly susurrating behind the cascading cacophony of his tumultuous thoughts and that of the merrymaking hoard, he hears an overtone. Uplifted by this Lydian timbre, Truth flashes through his being and his shame is washes along vermilion stained cheeks by the baptismal waters of joy, he remembers and understands.

Feeling the nascent stems of hair burst from their shorn follicles, he quietly asks to feel the pillars whereupon the room stands so that he may rest a while before the appointed time. Reaching out with both hands he places them upon the cool smooth surface of the marble columns. Immediately upon touch, he hears the undertone of his past come from his left and the droning overtone from his right, as peace floods through his soul. Bowing his head, he pushes…

Haircuts, greed or vengeance has nothing to do with the deeper meaning behind the story of Samson and Delilah, just as the zodiacal sign of Gemini has nought to do with the flighty restless, excitable personality possessing the concentration span of a goldfish, a social butterfly with a mind only able to retain gossip and a ADHD workshop junkie hunger seeking information for information sake!

Stories, just like astrological archetypes, are polysemic, meaning that they can be read at multiple levels according to a person’s awareness. Just think of how differently an adult views the Simpson’s cartoon, laughing at the double meaning satire, confident that their young child neither sees nor hears the social and political commentary, yet is still able to laugh at the antics of Bart, Homer, Marge, Lisa and Maggie.

The story of Samson, meaning man of the Sun, and Delilah, meaning delicate or weakened, conveys a deeper meaning, one of the breaking of the higher mind if it is consistently immersed solely in the pursuit of carnal, or material, matters. Each carefully constructed person or image within the story tells of deeper message in an attempt to help you remember your deeper heritage – that knowledge comes from two places simultaneously, and without both, we are neither complete nor balanced.

For example, the Philistines, the people who jibed Samson, can be translated as meaning strangers or symbolised as thoughts that are unhelpful for our spiritual progress or our overall wellbeing. Whereas Samson’s long hair relates to the growth from the higher chakras, the cutting of which symbolises the severing of our connection to spirit, something that many first Nation peoples were loath to do. The Silver that Delilah took to cut Samson’s hair refers to the Moon, a satellite of the Earth reflecting back the light of the Sun onto the Earth, known to the Sumerians as ‘Sin’, thereby symbolising whatever we are dwelling in is reflected back on us and that we miss the mark (sin) when we become exclusively consumed with our emotional yearnings and longings.

When Samson takes the time to raise up his head and listen to the tones beyond the material, he finds peace and insight that allows strength to flow again, enabling him to defeat the impulses of his lower nature, raising up the serpentine energy beyond the three through the seven.

Following in the footsteps of Aries and Taurus, Gemini is the third archetypal sign of the zodiac. It corresponds to the development of awareness, which naturally progresses after a moment of divine inspiration which is anchored to something tangible to give it form. In other words – we are both human and divine, spiritual beings within a physical body.

This awareness of the inherent dualism within life – namely the co-existence of both Spirit and Matter – is central to the Geminian archetype, a sign which ultimately serves as a bridge to connect Spirit to Matter and Matter back to Spirit, rather than being a veritable source of inane information about soap operas, trivia and superficial social commentary.

Known also as Mutable Air, Gemini is the pathway in consciousness that refers to the participatory exchange of knowledge between spirit and matter, or between two people. It is the existence of the Gemini consciousness that we remember that all communiqués have a spiritual component to them, existing as we do in two worlds simultaneously. Within each of us, we have the ability to bridge these worlds – the rational and non-rational; the left and right brain; Yin and Yang; Spirit and Matter. We are twinned with spirit. It is not separate from us. The issue is, however, can we hear?

Just as Samson is surrounded by those distracted by desire, instable hungers and seeking a thrill to quell their languishing boredom, let alone his own lustful pangs, we are no different millennia later. We live within a society training you to have the attention span of the goldfish – constantly scrolling; watching to 60 second reels; the five minute weight loss exercise; the 30 second quick fix healing; constantly bombarded by facts, information and trivia, and by a stream of emotional drama, sensationalism and reactiveness in soap operas, tabloid shows and newsprint.

But what about the development of awareness based on deeper principles that free you from the repetition of monotonous toiling?  What of the ability to communicate and share information, enabling true growth? What of the subtle, yet purposeful, intention that lies along with the knowledge that is shared?

Remember that nature and quality of your thoughts has an impact on the world that you perceive and subsequently on your interaction with your world. The natural exchange of information from you to someone else not only leads to a cross-pollination of perspectives but it empowers you to acquire knowledge thereby enhancing (or otherwise) your understanding of your life, supporting you to make more informed decisions. Coming away from such an exchange having received a higher revelation is the ultimate raison d’être of our seeking communion with another Soul.

The sign of Gemini teaches us that communication takes place at two differing levels simultaneously – materially and spiritually; Yin with Yang. The intent imbued within the words that you use carries as much importance as the actual words themself. I am sure that you can think of examples of stories that you have read which were not especially literate, yet there was something intangible emanating from the ‘aura’ of the story that seemed to capture your imagination and shaped your consciousness.

During Sun-day’s Geminian lunation you could reflect on whether the quality of what you are reading/ thinking/ communicating is adding to your life in a constructive manner. Find two pillars and stand between them. Stretch out your hands and feel the presence of the ancestors, all that is past, all that is present flow through your left hand. Feel the awareness of spirit move through your right, and ask yourself whether you are giving equal time and heedance to both strands of knowledge in all of your thoughts, words and deeds?

Just as Samson’s one sided pursuit of emotional satisfaction brought him to the brink of destruction, so too are we in that very same place when we are ruled by external events and people who we believe can bring us joy. Samson’s power and strength came from remembering to look ‘up’ and to draw forth perspective from a higher consciousness that gave perspective and meaning to his emotions and desires. When he crucified his ego hunger so too were those distracting thoughts and emotions laid to rest.

So the next time you think of Gemini as being a shallow, superfast, fibre optic broadband stream of information, think again! Just like the Copenhagen ‘wave/particle’, you have within you the ability to operate as a portal through which knowledge is accessed from the Akashic records, serving to connect you to true wisdom, a stream that you can more consciously access as the Light of the firmament unite on the 18^th of June.
