The Freedom, Fame and Fortune of Julian Assange

I watched closely over the past few years as the campaign to free Australian whistleblower Julian Assange ramped up. I was very interested in his mission, and his quest for truth as well as how the snares of an unjust world and justice system, were wanting to detain and silence him and his mission. It was so good to hear he was coming home!

Julian Assange’s questionable birth time has been quite a subject in the astrology community over the years. There are a few versions floating about, one with a Libra rising, another with a Scorpio rising, and the one I use with Sagittarius rising. It is also the chart now most popular I believe out there, and for good reason. Not only does it suit him, his life, and his character, but also, as you follow his life story - you see it working.

As a Cancer Sun and Scorpio Moon person, the Sagittarius rising chart with Neptune and Saturn directly on the ASC and DSC angles, and the ASC ruler Jupiter in Scorpio it all quite suitably resembles his life and story, looks and stature. The chart ruler, Jupiter in the 12th house in Scorpio, speaks volumes about the life that he has lived and about the whistleblower whom he has been recognised for. It shows a chart of someone focused on exposing the truth from hidden sources and being held accountable for it, whilst during the process becoming a hero for truth as well as a sacrificial victim in the process. We can see it so strongly in this chart with Neptune rising in opposition to the cold, harsh Saturn. His Sun in Cancer in the 8th house deepens the intensity and the daring, square to Uranus in the 11th house implies the Promethean act of being caught in the endless battle for freedom of truth and information.

Besides seeing a chart activated by transits and progressions, solar arcs, Venus Star points, eclipses, and other factors (some of which I will get to later), there are other factors that I also consider to know if a birth time is correct. They include using astro maps of various kinds, A*C*G, geodetic and local space lines as well as using other points like the Part of Fortune. The PoF is a formula made up of the Ascendant degree, the Sun and the Moon degrees, a combination of the luminaries and the Ascendant, which has to be correct to work.

THE PARTS

The Part of Fortune (or Fortuna) glyph shows the circle of Spirit encompassing the Cross of Matter and symbolises how our Spirit manifests here on earth, what resources and talents one has been gifted in this lifetime, the health of your physical body, your overall wealth, as it combines your Sun, Moon and your incarnation’s Ascendant. In Hellenistic traditions they were called LOTS. The LOT you were assigned in this lifetime. There were seven main LOTS and later in Arabic traditions they became known as PARTS with many more formulas added.

I also love using the Part of Fortune with relocation charts as it changes depending on the rising sign and degree of course for different places and can tell us more about our association and purpose with a particular city or town.

The formula to calculate the PoF in Julian’s case is the DAY formula as he was born during the day: Ascendant + Moon – Sun = Part of Fortune.

For those hearing this for the first time there is also the NIGHT formula which is:

Ascendant + Sun– Moon = Part of Fortune

Julian’s Part of Fortune using the 3pm time (see chart 1) calculates to 29° Pisces, the end of the zodiac in his daring 5th house using Porphyry Houses (yet the same for Placidus). Its ruler, Jupiter, makes an aspect by trine, with an opposition from Pluto. Traditional delineations would maybe ignore Pluto. It is important to remember that Parts (and other points) are not planets and do not cast rays or make aspects but receive them with the most significant connections being if the planet that rules the Part makes an aspect to it. In this case, his chart ruler, Jupiter, strengthens the connection by a trine.

The opposition to Pluto at 27° cannot be ignored as it is well known in astrological circles as the whistleblower’s degree at 27° Sagittarius [1]. At 29° Pisces, the end of the zodiac, threatened by Pluto, and also squared by Ceres and Venus in the 8th house, yet strengthened by Jupiter. Here we see the trial he went through in the hands of the powerful for his collective mission and a global plea for truth and transparency in our governing systems.

The Part of Captivity also stood out being opposite the PoF at 29° Virgo in Julian’s 10th house and telling of his experience of being jailed and taking refuge in the Ecuadorian embassy for five years. Using Al Biruni’s Parts and formulas as calculated in AstroGold software, the Part of Captivity is the formula of:

ASC+ Dispositor of Saturn - Saturn

The dispositor of Saturn in Gemini is Mercury. Again, we find a great fit. For Julian the Part of Captivity is conjoined Pluto, ruled by Mercury in the 8th, with Mercury dispositor of Saturn at the Descendant.

TRANSITS

These significant Parts as well as Pluto, Ceres, and Jupiter were of course aspected by Neptune at 27° - 29° Pisces over the past year bringing much hope for release but also much fear of his deteriorating mental state, suicide, or being extradited to the USA and ending up in Guantanamo for life. Yet, as we know, he was released, with a plea deal which in the end came together rather quickly. Julian was home via a jet to Australia after a short stop in the Northern Mariana Islands, a US commonwealth in the Western Pacific. Here, he pled guilty to one charge under the Espionage Act - of unlawfully conspiring to obtain and disseminate classified national defense information. His extradition request to the USA was dropped and Assange would not face any other charges. Neptune was at 29° Pisces on June 26th, 2024, as Neptune (and Saturn) stationed retrograde, and Mars was at the 45° midpoint to his Nodal Axis.

Other transits at the time of his release included the chart ruler, Jupiter, moving through his 7th house (having returned to Gemini after twelve years). It was twelve years ago and nearly to the date that Julian took refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. The Jupiter return to this date also highlighted the 2012 nodal axis on his ASC-DSC axis back in June 2012. The true Nodal axis of June 2024, was also transiting his Uranus, Chiron, and Eris opposition, with a solar eclipse at 10° Libra coming to conjoin his Uranus on October 2nd, 2024. It is significant to note that the Saros cycles of 2006, (Saros cycles return 18 years apart) when Julian first launched Wikileaks on October 4th 2006, have been returning during 2024. The 26th of June of course is very close to his 53rd Solar Return. Venus was so beautifully placed at the local ascendant in Canberra conjunct Julian’s Sun.

How we distribute and inform our values and needs over this time period is up for a great review, but also shows that it will take more effort, more convincing, more fight, and more action to get things to change or move on.

PROGRESSIONS and SOLAR ARCS

Progressions for the C*I*A in 2022, I studied Julian’s chart in further depth to use as a working example. We used his progressed Moon to show a very relevant connection as it moved through the houses of his chart. I noticed Julian had some big shifts coming in the near future. I could see that his Sun and then his Venus would progress to Virgo in 2023 and 2024. It was in his 10th house implying something big was shifting for sure. Zero Virgo now the place of fixed star Regulus, star of the new heroes of a Regulus in Virgo Age (2.) Julian’s Mc had also progressed to Uranus within 1°.

The Solar Arcs at the time of his release also lined up in significant ways and angles. Only six weeks earlier, Uranus had moved by Solar Arc to 0° Sagittarius, conjoining natal Neptune on his Jupiter, the ASC ruler. Meanwhile, Solar Arc Mars had aligned with natal Chiron and Eris, and Venus had arced to his natal nodal axis. Ceres, the goddess attuned to underworld experiences, abductions, and the like, was also at the MC by Solar Arc. It is in such instances that the Southern Hemisphere and the reversal of the Nodal axis become most significant. Is Venus on the North or South node here?

SYNODIC CYCLES

In 2024 we knew the next Venus Star Point would also trigger the 4 year and 8 years cycles of the Venus Star, with the return of the Gemini Star Point to 14° Gemini. This Gemini Star Point would occur in Julian’s 7th house near the same time as Jupiter would return there as well. The Gemini Star Point occurred here in 2012 as a retrograde point when Julian took asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy, with the transiting Nodal axis and Jupiter aligning at his DSC. Twelve years later the Venus Star Point was at the superior conjunction phase (in 2012 Venus Star Point was the interior conjunction) with Jupiter again nearby and with the transiting nodes this time aligning with natal Uranus.

It is interesting to note that also this particular Star Point is not only the heliocentric North Node of Venus, but also that of the North Node of Uranus. The 2024 Venus Star Point was the closest pass of this Star Point to the Node of Uranus in our times, indicating many breakthroughs and big changes ahead. ASTRO MAPS

As mentioned before, we can check the Astro Maps for further guidance and see if the chart lives in the world, and see if the planet lines support one’s life story. From Julian’s A*C*G lines on the world map, we can see that near his birthplace of Townsville, Saturn, Neptune, and Jupiter lines rise and fall, with the Nodal axis and Mars on the MC and IC. These Mars and Nodal axis lines sit right over and near the Marianna Islands where he flew to make his plea to the US and was finally freed. This Mars line on the IC also goes through Canberra, Australia. As we continue to move around the world, the connections to his life, his mission, and the outcomes are outstanding.

Remembering that about 100kms on the world map represents 1° degree of the zodiac, we can use a few degrees on either side of a planetary line to have it in range, giving more for the Sun and Moon, as we would perhaps in our natal delineations. Using the 2° Sagittarius rising chart, we can see Mercury (at 24° Cancer, also conjoined Mercury in the USA chart) is near exactly at the ASC degree through

London where Pluto is exactly on the IC. It could not be more telling of what happened there. Uranus squares Mercury in the 8th from the IC in Sweden where the alleged sexual assault allegations originated. It could not be more telling of what happened there. Very fittingly Chiron and Eris closely joined at 13° Aries (squaring the USA’s Sun at 14° Cancer) rise over Washington DC, USA, with Uranus opposite at the DSC and Julian’s Sun on the IC, the latter being only a few degrees off the USA’s Sun (being born on the 3rd of July in Australia). The whistleblower they did not really want, and the trouble Julian never expected from the USA, came into play. Uranus is also on the DSC through Ecuador, and although he never went there for asylum, the connection is undeniably present.

Local space lines can also be very telling, as in this case. From his birth place, the Pluto line radiates out to cross right over Washington DC, and the psychopomp Mercury (the one who goes where others do not dare), runs right through London, as it does in the A*C*G map. Furthermore, the Nodal axis runs through Iceland where he launched Wikileaks. Again, we see Mars and the Nodal axis through the Marianna Islands where he was freed.

PLANETARY NODES

See image below on this page It is worth adding here that in the close up image below we can see the heliocentric planetary nodes on the outside of Julian’s chart. The most interesting thing here is that the Node of Jupiter is exactly conjoined Julian’s Sun in the 8th house. Here, we can see the North Node of Jupiter, a powerful and condensed energy of Jupiter, the planet of truth infusing Julian’s Sun.

The Planetary Nodes, as suggested by Mark Jones [3] can be understood as the condensed essence of the entire planetary cycle

Mark Jones has done much research on this subject and relays in his books and webinars the collective impulse carried by the individual with a planetary node conjoined a personal planet. With or without an accurate birth time, the North Node of Jupiter would still be conjoined Julian’s Sun - highlighting his quest for truth and freedom. However, with the Sun and the Node of Jupiter joined the 8th house and squared by Uranus in the 11th - we see the accentuated them of his life so far, daring to take greater risks than most, becoming a father and getting married while in jail, as well as living through the power struggles and government cover-ups he was entangled in.
