Tarazed, or Gamma Aquilae, resides in the shoulder of the soaring eagle, Aquila, lying just north of Altair (Alpha Aquilae). Together with Alshain (Beta Aquilae), it forms a line of stars often referred to as the Beam of Light, spanning about five degrees of sky. Located in the Water section of the firmament, tropically having moved into Fixed Air in the past 72 years, it has one foot in the matrix of the living and embodied earth, whilst being heard as a Nada within the reaches of the early stages of hypnogogic consciousness.
With an apparent visual magnitude of 2.7, Tarazed shines brightly enough to be discerned by the naked eye on clear nocturnal skies. Situated approximately 395 light-years from the Sun, it possesses a mass roughly 3.5 times that of our star and has expanded to an immense radius, nearly 92 times larger than the Sun.
THE GLYPH
Mirroring the Shaft of Light through Aquila, knowledge is received through the soul from the lofty planes of consciousness located within the gOdrealm and the Hall of Light. Unlike Aldebaran and Altair, stars that open the third eye and journey you through the astral planes, the beam of tone-light is transmitted from the astral into the lower planes of consciousness, made accessible through the emotional-body, and is articulated as a steady stream of heart-centred devotion and liminal awareness.
The axis of ascension and descension is inclined, enabling consciousness to pour forth into an embodied state.
The waning crescent arc of the soul is the recipient, suggesting that to receive the message of Tarazed you have to let go all mental noise and open your soul up to hearing the microtonal nada that streams from the shoulder of the eagle into your pre-verbal awareness, enabling you to tone with confidence as you speak from the gOdrealm.
Tarazed: The Beam of the Scale
Where the night sky pours down its oceanic inspiration, shines a star of luminous discernment and strength, Tarazed spearheads the beam of the celestial scale. Perched upon the shoulder of Aquila, the Eagle, it is a star that holds and supports. Known in Persia as šāhin tarāzu, “beam of the scale,” Tarazed evokes judgment tempered with wisdom, the weight of duty balanced by the lightness of conscience. Like the beam of a great cosmic balance, it weighs the destinies of humanity and the gOds, its pale orange light showcases an unconventional independence whilst balancing moral clarity with spiritual awareness.
Opening you up to a strength and resilience to receive the light of knowledge and awareness from the Hall of Light, Tarazed literally shoulders the responsibility to bear burdens and to uphold truth and justice in the face of life’s pressures. It opens up the soul to the raw, unfiltered emotional-imagination, whilst supporting spiritual discernment and truth beyond the ordinary, therefore encouraging you to perceive the shadow and light in everyone’s character.
Tarazed is the quiet sentinel behind Altair, the eagle’s eye, a companion to Alshain, forming a triad known as the Family of the Eagle, these three stars are markers of courage, devotion and seeking awareness. Yet Tarazed is a star of heart and home.
The Cowherd and Weaver Girl
Tarazed, along with the second star of Aquila, Alshain, play a role in the enchanting Chinese legend of Niulang (the Cowherd) and Zhinü (the Weaver Girl). Altair, the alpha star of Aquila, represents the Cowherd, while Vega in Lyra is the Weaver Girl. Tarazed and Alshain are said to be their celestial children. This myth speaks of enduring love, separation, and reunion, of loyalty and devotion transcending time and distance. Tarazed carries the spiritual resonance of familial bonds, fidelity, and the courage to uphold one’s heart and responsibilities, linking cosmic duty with human emotion. He holds the key to any story of love that is measured in light-years, and requiring a patience and devotion that defies time and distance. Interestingly, for the Kabalists, it reflects the sacred union of choices that shape the soul.
The Eagle’s Shoulder: Strength in Flight
The eagle itself is a universal symbol of vision, freedom, and spiritual ascent, able to soar above earthly trials while maintaining a clear and penetrating view of the world below.
As part of Aquila’s mighty frame, Tarazed embodies strength carried gracefully, the power to lift burdens without faltering. It is the shoulder upon which the knowledge of the gOds is carried. Just as Aquila soars through astral space-time, Tarazed presence opens up consciousness to be able to carry the prophetic gift of vision and clarity that emanates from Altair’s essence. Offering Divine protection, the freedom that can be held can enable you to embrace all that life offers, whether that triggers fear and doubt, or conversely elation and the ecstasy of awareness.
The Lunar Mansions
In Hindu astrology, Tarazed is located in the twenty-first Nakshatra, Çravana, and is associated both with the Ear and the Three Footsteps of Vishnu. Tarazed can support the embodiment of cunning, diligence, and moral rectitude, ‘encouraging’ those attuned to its song toward service or spiritual discipline, whilst demonstrating resilience and integrity.
When aligned with key personal planets, Tarazed’s energy may manifest as a sense of sacred duty, inner resolve, and philosophical or spiritual vision. The star fosters the ability to endure pressures with grace, lead quietly through example, and inspire loyalty. Conversely, when challenged, it can incline one toward overburdening oneself, martyrdom, or rigidity in moral or spiritual beliefs. Tarazed thus embodies a duality: immense power balanced by careful discernment, echoing the very “beam of the scale” from which it takes its name.
Listening to Tarazed
To hear Tarazed’s guidance is to enable the power of your heart to sway in triumphant jOy and majesty to the major scale of D. He confidently holds burdens without being crushed, offers support without expectation, and rises in service without sacrifice. Singing out for moral courage, raw-imaginative, emotional insight, and spiritual clarity, this tone can
- Balance service with self-care—honour duty without sacrificing personal vitality.
- Lead quietly with integrity rather than imposing will through dogma.
- Channel steady focus into meaningful, long-term goals, aligning action with higher ideals.
- Connect with greater purpose - spiritual, humanitarian, or creative—that uplifts others.
- Discern wisely in service and influence, recognising the limits of personal responsibility.
In Essence
Tarazed presence is a fusion of strength, spiritual balance, and visionary potential. As the beam of the scale within the eagle’s shoulder, it is a star of endurance, insight, and moral fortitude, a guiding light for those called to serve, lead, or carry burdens with dignity. A guardian of balance, a bearer of burdens, and a guide for the soul, to see it is to glimpse the shoulder of the eagle, feel the steady beam of cosmic justice, and hear the whispered promise of enduring love, spanning worlds, generations, and hearts. It is a star that asks us to soar with courage, measure with wisdom, and love with steadfast devotion, a celestial companion for those who carry life’s responsibilities with grace.
