A Method to Engage with the Lunar Nodes

As we explore the collective nodal axes, I want to share a conceptual framework of how we can approach the meaning of these nodal axes. In Evolutionary Astrology, we look at the reality a soul has incarnated into as the soul’s choice to experience meaningful and necessary circumstances and conditions to further its evolution.

Looking at all of humanity, we see a vast diversity of conditions, experiences, and challenges people are born into. Many of these experiences appear to be unfair; they appear to be the cause of unnecessary suffering, from a certain point of view. In Evolutionary Astrology, we would say that the ways in which humanity is not aligned with natural law is the root cause of suffering on the planet. As an individual, being out of harmony can lead to suffering in a moment on any given day. Collectively, the societal conditions and phenomena are the outward manifestations of inward alignment with beliefs and values that are rooted in ignorance and distortions of natural law. Ignorance leads to suffering.

Evolutionary Astrology teaches individuals to find a way to evolve out of victim consciousness. In light of the concept of souls choosing their evolutionary circumstances and conditions, I believe it is very important for us to consider what individual acceptance and embracing of individual karma looks like, and, at the same time, understanding how acceptance doesn't mean approval.

First off, the greater risk of falling into victim consciousness is that it can lead us into an inability to accept our soul’s mission. This then can lead to the blaming of others, acting out of anger, criticism and negativity, hopelessness, and/or not taking personal responsibility.

I want to emphasise here that accepting that our soul, for some crazy reason, chose these challenging circumstances to incarnate into, does not mean to passively accept abuse, deflation, inferiority, subordination, injustice, and oppression. Standing up for our own dignity, our own inherent value and rights as humans is essential to the soul’s evolution and healing. And for collective healing.

Now, if we are conscious of suffering and turn a blind eye to it, is it, in a sense, turning our backs on the suffering of our people? In the sense we are all one greater whole of humanity? But, what do we do?

In this modern era of shared information, we are now exposed daily, more than at any time in our evolutionary past, to so many ways suffering is playing out. We face a new crisis of what to do as individuals and how to participate in change. How do we not fall into the normalization of suffering? How do we not dissociate from the overwhelm of it all? How do we decide what we individually are responsible for participating in? How do we accept the individual limits of where we are at and what we can and cannot do? These are now modern dilemmas we face.
It is not everyone’s calling in a lifetime to put themselves in the path of danger and risk their life, becoming a martyr for a greater cause. One of the larger issues we face is finding truly authentic ways to act and support a better world, while simultaneously not falling into judgement of how or what ourselves or others are or aren’t doing. In Evolutionary Astrology, I see that we embrace the belief that the real work begins within the individual. This path of self-realisation includes becoming aware of all our own shadows and contradictory aspects of self.
While I fully believe in the value of this and understand that not every individual is called to heroics and danger, I do believe we are also called to ask: “What is my personal calling and role in participating in collective evolution?” There isn’t a right or wrong answer here. This isn’t about judgement of what that answer looks like. The answer will change over time. But, I do believe we are called to at least be open to inviting Life to reveal to us an answer to this question.
Self-work through a paradigm like Evolutionary Astrology can be a starting place or stepping stone on the path of positively changing the world. Within this is a process of re-education and unlearning. We also call this de-conditioning, a Uranus/Aquarius archetypal process. I connect this to the reclaiming of the South Nodes of Uranus and Venus in Sagittarius. It is important that we reclaim our own individual authentic journey towards truth and living in harmony, Venus, with Natural Law, Sagittarius.

One of the important pieces of this greater participation in the collective can then be understood through the North Node of Neptune in Leo. I am sure you have heard the spiritual song “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.” Starting from this place of bringing into outer expression the true authentic self becomes a very important starting place for participation in the movement of human evolution. I believe that only in our individual hearts can we say if we are on our own path of participation in the larger evolution of humanity.

Most humans desire a peaceful path towards positive change. With Neptune now transiting Aries for the rest of the 2020s and up into 2039, we have just entered a time period of movements. People are on the move. The corporate-owned media typically gives selected and slanted views of what is actually happening in the world right now, but this is a time of revolution. Perhaps when Neptune was in Pisces, working within consciousness was more the path towards supporting collective evolution. It is a very invisible work, I will say, and therefore misunderstood and devalued at times. However, it is always a mixed bag. As we know, the Neptune in Pisces era certainly brought with it mass dissociation.


Now, with Neptune in Aries coupled with Pluto in Aquarius, the collective evolution will progressively be defined as movements of the people. These greater movements require all kinds of participation. No one knows what your path and journey of engagement will look like. With all of this said, I want to emphasise that the Collective Planetary Nodal Axes offer us an ability to more deeply understand and contextualise the larger evolutionary themes we face, offering an entry point into re-education and creating a shared vision for the future.

As we continue this thread, I will be sharing what this shared vision looks like, through the lens of the planetary nodes. I like to start this entire process with a key question based on the North Node of Saturn in Cancer. Perhaps Saturn is the most real place we can start. This question is: “What are our standards of care going to be?” “How will we define the safety net which society can put in place?”

So, when we explore the ways the planetary nodes correlate to the atrocities and to the systematic methods of injustice, I want to make sure we both understand this and explore how the cure can be found in understanding the poison, so to speak. To guide this, I am presenting here a method for engaging with the planetary nodes.

Method to Engage with the Planetary Nodes:

    • Use the planetary nodal axes to understand the evolution of problems, suffering, and individual and collective evolutionary challenges.
    • Use our understanding of karmic and evolutionary necessity to embrace the evolutionary needs for humanity that, at present, include extremes of suffering and tragedy.
    • Correlate the planetary nodes to known solutions to these individual and collective challenges.
    • Use these correlations and our understanding of these specific archetypal combinations to inspire new solutions, at both the individual level and the collective level, to the present-day challenges and evolutionary crises we face.
    • Use our understanding of the solutions presented by the planetary nodes to help inspire our participation in the effort for changing the conditions that create suffering and tragedy. We can frame this as participation in individual and collective efforts to return to living in harmony with natural law.

Through this process, we actively participate in the re-education of ourselves and the collective.
 

I will never claim to be able to make sense of the insanity, tragedy, and beauty that is incarnating on Earth as a human being. Method B, to me, is crucial to begin to find peace and meaning, but it may not be possible in the present. That is okay. Method E is just as important, especially now with Neptune in Aries, because our ultimate meaning in life is now collectively defined by the self-discovery of our participation in the movement for individual and collective change.
One of the pitfalls of greater movements and approaches is how we end up in values clashes and ideological disagreements, eventually losing momentum on moving towards a primary goal. But how do we define a primary goal? Personally, I believe our understanding as Evolutionary Astrologers can help with this. Saturn, to me, is the cornerstone to build upon. I believe that Saturn is the best first priority. I mean this in terms of starting with Saturn’s North Node in Cancer. And, as Evolutionary Astrologers, if you want to start with Pluto, just consider that the North Nodes of Saturn and Pluto are in a conjunction, thus Saturn defines the evolutionary path!

How will we improve the ways we care for people? Or, perhaps first, can we reach a growing consensus that caring for humans is our first priority? That prioritising the essential needs of housing, food, healthcare, livable wages, electricity and internet are more important than protecting private capital. I say this because the resources to care for the people exist. The money is there; literally trillions of dollars are sitting in banks while the masses struggle to make ends meet. I can’t help but see, more and more, that the planetary nodes speak towards this as the most important ground to begin to gain consensus.

So, if we did regain the control of the capital, would we be able to keep these priorities in place for use of the shared resources? We live in a period where division and polarisation abound. And so, over and over, we can avoid the trap of identity politics and values clashes by remaining focused on a hierarchy of priorities. On some things, we may have to play the long game and continue the process of collective re-education in the future. But for now, can we achieve the needed critical mass to begin to care for people? Prioritizing the people's needs before prioritising protecting private capital? But how do we do this work of gaining this consensus? It is with this journey into the meanings of the planetary nodes that I believe reveal to us a way to support the greater efforts of achieving alignment of shared goals and priorities. And it is this journey which we are beginning.
