Sky Spy: Geodetic Maps and Christopher Nolan’s Chart

Since starting my journey and fascination with Geodetic Maps, probably more than ten years ago now, I have found many compelling examples and realised that Geodetic Maps can be used not only for mundane astrology, but also to reveal an individual's connections with places around the world.

A Geodetic Map in astrology is a fixed global map that links the Earth's lines of longitude directly to the signs of the zodiac, using the Prime Meridian as 0° Aries. It assigns a permanent zodiac sign and degree to the Midheaven of every location on Earth, known as its Geodetic Equivalent (GE). Natal charts can then be inserted into Geodetic Maps, allowing us to see where planets and their degrees pass through particular places on the planet. The key to working with GE charts and maps is becoming familiar with the fixed map and understanding that the Geodetic Equivalents never change, only the planets move through them, like on a the grid.

Mundane Examples
Watching planets move through significant areas and degrees over the past years has kept me intrigued and on the mission. In 2016, when Donald Trump became President of the United States for the first time, Uranus and Eris, both at 23° Aries, transited the Ascendant exactly over Washington, D.C. Washington, D.C. carries the Geodetic Equivalent of 13° Capricorn on the Midheaven and 23° Aries on the Ascendant. When Donald Trump was elected to a second term in 2024, Eris was still very close to Washington's Ascendant at 25° Aries, but this time it was joined by Chiron. How fitting that the new face of the United States in 2016 was symbolised by a Uranus–Eris combination over the nation's capital. Then, in 2024, as Chiron joined Eris over Washington, it became painfully obvious how flawed the electoral system appeared to many, while also raising questions about how a convicted criminal could once again become President.

More recently, just as I began teaching a Geodetic Maps Masterclass, the devastating earthquake struck Venezuela 24th June, 2026. Mercury was stationing almost exactly on the IC of the capital, Caracas, and as Mercury retrograded back over the area, the enormous task of searching through the rubble and rescuing survivors unfolded. When following planets on Geodetic Maps we also need to take in other considerations, like aspects, declination and parallels and midpoints playing out at any particular time.

As mentioned in many of our C*I*A updates over the past year, Uranus and the Nodal Axis has been transiting over the Strait of Hormuz. In Geodetic terms, 0° Gemini is the Midheaven for this region, while 29° Leo is the Ascendant and 29° Aquarius the Descendant. The energy crisis and conflict with Iran escalated shortly after the eclipse at 29° Aquarius in February 2026. The maps could hardly be more revealing for one of the world's major geopolitical hotspots in 2026.

Some important locations on the map may not appear as obvious at first glance. Israel, for example, has a Geodetic Midheaven of 5° Taurus, with no major planetary lines passing directly through it. However, when we consider that Pluto is currently squaring 4° Taurus, we can see that it is deeply connected to the broader outer-planet configurations of our time, including the unfolding Great Sextile, Basket, Cradle in formation.

As we were putting together the finishing touches on publishing this Timelords Issue 16 on 28th July, a major earthquake took place in Kumamoto Japan. This region has a 10° Leo MC and 5° Scorpio Ascendant. As we know Jupiter and the Sun, were coming together at 6° Leo (exact on July 29th, 2026) squaring this Ascendant, with the Sun at 5° prior the Full Moon, both opposite Pluto triggered by all the outer planet formations taking place right now. Also of note - Jupiter and the Sun are currently in the same declination as well, (by 14' of arc) this is not true for every conjunction.

To use the Geodetic Map and GE Geodetic Equivalents, the more you use it and take notice proves to be a vibrating and informative zodiacal grid projected onto our world map. How to use this in a Mundane sense "when and where is something major going to happen?" i have discussed many times in various C*I*A sessions. To predict a danger zone, will cause panic, to be a "town crier" that says all should evacuate or take caution, will only cause fear and mass hysteria. Therefore I find the best we can do with all this, is continue to discover more and become more aware and conscious of its living existence.

Christopher Nolan's Geodetic map

From a completely different perspective, we can also use this magic map, to be inspired to travel, explore, move, live, and to connect our living story around the world symbolically or literally. I explore Odyssey director Christopher Nolan's chart to connect living magic.

There couldn't be a better-themed movie released at this moment as the Great Sextile comes together and Jupiter in Leo perfects its trine to Neptune in Aries: Christopher Nolan's much-anticipated film, The Odyssey.

Based on Homer's The Odyssey, the ancient Greek epic poem about the King of Ithaca, Odysseus, and his ten-year journey home after the Trojan War, the story follows two main narratives. One sees Odysseus battling mythical monsters and gods at sea, while the other follows his loyal wife, Penelope, and son, Telemachus, as they fend off the greedy suitors attempting to seize his kingdom. Now reimagined as an epic cinematic production by Christopher Nolan, the film boasts a star-studded cast and a budget of $250 million.

Inserting Christopher Nolan's natal chart into the Geodetic Map reveals some remarkable connections. We do not have a birth time for Nolan, making Geodetic Maps especially valuable for illustrating how an individual's life unfolds on the world stage through geographical and symbolic connections.

As the world-renowned director receives both praise and criticism following the film's release on 17 July 2026, transiting Jupiter is crossing his natal Sun–Mars conjunction at 5–6° Leo. What is even more fascinating is that, on the Geodetic Map, Nolan's natal Sun and Mars run directly through Greece, where much of the epic journey takes place. They are now being activated by transiting Jupiter, with its powerful connections to the Great Sextile—opposing Pluto, trining Neptune, and sextiling Uranus.

Another outstanding correlation is that 28° Libra is the fixed Geodetic IC running through Troy, the legendary starting point of Odysseus' long journey home.

Yet there seems to be more when we think on these GE Maps, when considering Nolan's other epic movies. The first film to bring him widespread recognition was Batman Begins (2005), yet it was surpassed by The Dark Knight (2008), also a Batman story, which became a massive turning point in Christopher Nolan's career. It cemented his status as an elite blockbuster filmmaker and gave him unprecedented creative freedom.

The Batman story, as we know, is set in Gotham City, a fictional place closely associated with New York. "The first time Gotham City is named in the Batman comics is in issue #4, when writer Bill Finger wanted to give the setting a more ambiguous location and changed the name from Manhattan to Gotham. This was in 1940. However, long before Batman, we find the name Gotham linked to the writer Washington Irving, famous for his short stories The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle. On the Geodetic Map, Nolan has Jupiter crossing right on the Descendant of New York City, which has a 29° Aries Ascendant and a 29° Libra Descendant. At the time The Dark Knight was released on July 14, 2008, Jupiter was at 16° Capricorn, culminating on the Midheaven over New York City. This is what an activated Paran for Nola's Chart.

In 2023, with the release of Nolan's previous blockbuster, Oppenheimer, we find even more remarkable connections on his Geodetic Map. Christopher Nolan's film follows the brilliant theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy, who is chosen by the U.S. military to lead the secret Los Alamos Laboratory during World War II. His team races to build the world's first atomic bomb before Nazi Germany does. They successfully detonate the Trinity test in July 1945, leading to the devastating destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Oppenheimer grapples with the profound guilt and moral consequences of unleashing such catastrophic destruction.

On Nolan's Geodetic Map, we find his nodal axis running very near Los Alamos, New Mexico, where the real life bomb was developed and where much of the film is set. The nodal axis passes within only 60 miles (100 km) of Los Alamos, what we consider approximately a 1° orb in Astro*Maps. Nolan also has Ceres on the Descendant, with his Mars and Sun on the Midheaven over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, again only a few degrees away. It seems Nolan was drawn or compelled to tell the Oppenheimer story as seen in his Geodetic Map.

What becomes even more intriguing is that Oppenheimer was released during the Venus station in Leo in July of 2023. Venus stationed at 28° Leo, not only conjoining Nolan's natal Mercury, but also completing her retrograde at 12° Leo directly over Hiroshima on the Geodetic Map, with the film still a major box office hit. Transiting Jupiter, at the time of the film's release, was also squaring the Midheaven of Hiroshima. Interestingly J. Robert Oppenheimer's own natal Mars is at 11° Taurus, adding yet another compelling layer to the symbolism surrounding these connections on Nolan's Geodetic Map.

Christopher Nolan lives in Los Angeles - yet we see no significant planetary lines through here. The Los Angeles GE co-ordinates are 2° Sagittarius MC and 16° Aquarius ASC . The location's MC makes a dynamic square to Nolan's Nodal axis. This reminds us that Geodetic Maps are all about zodiac degrees, planets at particular degrees and aspects, or midpoints made or connecting to these degrees.

There is definitely much to glean from the profound symbolism in Geodetic Maps, be they for natal charts, transits, arcs and progressions, or highlighting Mundane hotspots.
