The Month Ahead: International Intersectionality, April 2016
By Agent 64 – Javon “Khepri” Cogmon
“To have anything we want, we need only raise our level of consciousness to the level of consciousness where what we want exists.”
― Wu Wei, I Ching Wisdom: More Guidance from the Book of Answers, Volume Two
You have made it to the fourth month of the year 2016. We just experienced a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Pisces followed by a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Libra that helped us start a new six month lunar cycle based on rebalancing our short term desires away from instant gratification shifting them towards long term balance and prudence. While many can feel the ambitious, adventurous and clever influence of its Chinese Zodiac sign, the monkey, situations begin to really heat up in April, highlighting the Monkey’s element of fire as the monkey’s influence comes into sync with the western energies of the Tropical Zodiac.
The sometimes mischievous influence of the red fire monkey will echo across the bio-solar cosmos as Uranus in Aries makes a conjunction with the sun in Aries Sun (20º Aries 27’5″) conjunct Uranus (20º Aries 27’5”), chiming a fiercely creative and transformative force throughout the month of April. The monkey is definitely not the spicy meatball you want to take on while powerhouse forces like Mars and Pluto are ready to interrupt the monkey’s nimble game of double-dutch jump roping.
“We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.”
― Abraham Lincoln
Aries’ ruler, ♂Mars, stations ℞retrograde℞ in the sign of ♐Sagittarius (on April 14 12:13 pm UT at 8º Sagittarius 54’2”). ♇Pluto stations ℞retrograde (on April 18th 07:25 am UT at 17º Capricorn 29’6″), and just for shits and giggles, Mercury stations retrograde on the 28th of “Aphrodite’s April,” at 5:19 pm UT at 23º Taurus. The great news is that all of these power hitters are tempered by the theory that all things Aries will initiate new opportunities, move many projects forward, and boldly go wherever the hell that the ram inside of all of us wants to go. So be prepared to move out of the way or jump on the energies of that cosmic ram for the ride of your life. With Uranus’ reputation as the shock jock of the zodiac, Pluto’s reputation as the “emo” prince of darkness and Mercury’s well earned title of “trickster,” be prepared for intense and unforeseen shifts.
And Why not?
We have a New Moon in Aries on April 7th followed by a full moon in Scorpio on April 21st underlining Mars’ campaign of siege that began in March. This New Moon will be the call to action that moves you from passive observer to active participant!
Naturally, with Mars, Pluto and Mercury going into their respective retrograde cycles; it benefits you to consider the distinct shadows that are specific to each of them. With this positive approach, you can see the benefits of which challenges to reflect and grow upon instead of “ramming” yourself headlong into a sparring match with an opposing force that is wearing spiked brass knuckles and Dr. Marten Steel Toe boots. Since April is the month that Aries reluctantly passes the baton to Taurus and screams “faster,” I feel guided to remind you to:
1. ☯Manage your emotions☯
2. ⚡Stay Motivated⚡
3. ♎Creating Serenity
April starts off with a lot of action oriented fire that will undoubtedly test your patience, but once the baton is passed to Venus ruled Taurus a sense of calm and relaxed stability begins to build towards a sensually solid serenity that will support you in keeping your sanity.
Watch Your Tone: The Tonic of the New Moon
Sanity is very important in a year where politics and scientific breakthroughs are dominating the mass media. According to the Mayan perspective, the zodiac is also made up of 13 sonic tones. On April 7, 2016 the New Moon in Aries occurs during the 11th tone that happens to represent resolution. This tone creates a tendency for strong, logical, thoughtful energy with a high potential for change, connection and progress. So think of the fast moving change associated with the new moon in Aries as a catalyst for change that starts by sweeping away our old ideas, attachments, and wishes and replacing them all with the tools to create the opportunities that favor a higher degree of sustainable success.
― Helen Keller
Mama’s Pink Lemonade?
Keep in mind that we just finished March, women’s month where there are plenty of examples of formidable females who in effect have put the little engine that could out of business. The powerful full pink moon in Scorpio will remind us of how the Hero/Heroine’s Journey plays out through each and everyone of us. The full moon takes place on April 21, highlighting the power of the sacred feminine. Here are just a few ladies that the world could benefit from during a year of turbulent changes:
- Malala Yousafzai
- Vandana Shiva
- Aung San Suu Kyi
- Angela Davis
The accomplishments of these women can be seen as both sour and sweet, just like a cold glass of lemonade on a hot day. These ladies symbolize the diverse and dynamically changing landscape of privilege and inequity still present on our planet today. The range of their history, deeds and distinct cultural backgrounds, demonstrate how the industrialized nations of the western world are slowly becoming transnational societies with a greater sense of responsibility and buy-in for the welfare of all citizens. This Pink Lemonade goes perfectly with the Full Pink Moon in Scorpio and the shadow of Mercury’s upcoming Retrograde cycle. Sun square Pluto and Venus square Pluto facilitate new beginnings by pushing us past simply “teaching tolerance,” while A Full Moon in Scorpio on April 22, (Sun at 2º Taurus 30’58” opposite the Moon at2º Scorpio 30’58”) at 5:23 am UT, evolves our collective consciousness from the concepts of privileges into the more tangible discussion around intersectionality. Since Eros forms a square with Ceto [2:16 pm UT – Eros (18 Aquarius 33’17”) square Ceto (18 Scorpio 33’17” Rx )] and Venus forms a conjunction with Uranus on the same day, you can expect that people will begin to look closely at their own unearned advantages and disadvantages in life, inspiring people to dismantle all institutions that perpetuate inequity or try to banish citizens that blow the whistle on corrupt practices. [Hello Edward Snowden, Julian Assange and Bradley (Chelsea) Manning.]
As the people of earth begin to understand self-worth without the over-emphasis and identification with the toxic parts of ego, we will slowly step towards embracing diversity and exploring the toxic trappings of privilege from the perspective of a protective ally and friend that wants to understand the plight of the impoverished world-wide. Since Cultural Diversity is just the tip of a Titanic sized iceberg that plunges all the way to the ocean floor, the concept of Intersectionality will be extended from critical thinking to describe the ways in which oppressive ideals and institutions (racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, classism, etc.) are interconnected and cannot be examined separately from one another. The ideas and ingenuity that come from the experiences of a diverse population literally has the potential of creating a stronger and more open world.
Mars retrograde from Sagittarius through Scorpio (April 17th – June 29th) is where the rubber from that collective chariot of transpersonal evolution hits the road. Mercury’s retrograde cycle in Taurus supports our efforts to make all projects that we do together substantially better so that none of us inadvertently serve as the tentacles of the corporate oligarchy that push the toxic waste of competition over cooperation down our throat without a “safe word.” Mars always has his two side-kick moon-children, Phobos (fear) and Deimos (dread) but expect that kick that comes from Venus conjunct Uranus (8:59 pm UT – Venus (21 Aries 11’24”) to trumpet that Beatles anthem, “ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE,” throughout the end of April to distract you from the hurry up and wait push-pull dynamic you will experience.
Keep in mind that Jupiter’s trek through Virgo, Saturn’s track through Sagittarius and Neptune’s spa retreat in Pisces, will continue to push us all towards our higher ambitions to make our insides more beautiful than our outsides. While we each may feel like we are isolated on separate journeys with potentially disparate outcomes, the mutable energies are rewarding us with higher capacities for our personal trait developments in patience and flexibility. The meridians of our bodies are subtle pathways that are said to connect our body’s flow of yin/yang energy to our organs, chakras and etherial bodies in the same manner that ley lines connect the earth’s most sacred places. The difference is that now we are individually moving towards actualizing the concept of being “civilized.”
As we take steps towards global inclusion and accountability, our need to break free of our archaic system of functioning makes revolutionary acts for sovereignty eminent in every nation. So while we are in the year of the red fire monkey, the Hermit in the tarot and the White Galactic Wizard on the Mayan moon calendar, expect April to be the beginning of a momentum so fierce it makes CERN’s particle accelerator look like a herd of elephants running in slow motion. Saturn in Sagittarius’ crusade to find freedom and wisdom in the world is in full swing. But just because everyone around you may want their own way, never underestimates the centaur’s desire to “fight for your right to party,” even if it is from the library of the party’s location. Continue to seek out everything you need, but be ready to let it all go for the good of the many and not just the few.
