The 8th house: Your Secret Power

Did you know that your 8th house is the key to your secret power, your transformational potential?

8TH HOUSE Associations– The house of sex, death, taxes • Joint resources, personal transformation, through trust, intimacy,
• Sharing, resources emotional, financial, sexual • Obligations with others- taxes, debt etc • Death- experiences, initiations, passages, transformation • shared resources, taxes, finance, joint finances, inheritance, wills, death, endings, • Union/Love, emotional bonds, betrayal, grief, rage, jealousy, fear, • Depth understanding, • Loss, decay, anxiety, legacies, testaments, consolidation, withdrawal, re-evaluation, acceptance of loss, letting go.

The 8th house is like the “Underworld” of the chart and similarly to the 12th house it also hides things below the surface.
Often the 8th house is likened to the Scorpion’s lair and its modern ruler planet Pluto. So what are Scorpio and Pluto known for? Scorpio is known for being a secretive and magnetic sign, and Pluto, at the initial stages of its evolution, is all about power and control in the name of self-preservation.

However, this should not be confused with the secrets of Neptune or the 12th house as that is where the dissolution of the Ego takes place. The 12th house is not a powerhouse like the 8th, it is traditionally known as the house of your self-undoing where your secrets can potentially defame you, which is very different from the 8th house where your personal power hides. The 12th house is the intermediate state between life and death, and as such it has no interest in exerting power or control over this world. Neptune is about letting go. Pluto is about control.

It is the most distant dwarf planet in our solar system and so it feels out of reach, elusive and mysterious, which is why Scorpio is often a very misunderstood sign. Pluto strives hard to protect its core because it fights its battles on its own. It is a lone wolf after all, far away from the biggest luminary (the Sun), all alone in this vast cosmic darkness. The 8th house as your secret power is often overlooked as it has a rep for mainly being the house of death, sex and inheritance.

From a Buddhist point of view, complete self-control is the true power. This type of power can act just as it desires in any situation. Buddhas (enlightened beings) have no limits to their willpower because they live in self-realization. A bodhisattva, one aspiring to become a Buddha, with a strong Mars placement (such as Mars in the 8th house) can quickly develop willpower. Buddhists consider this a blessing.

Some of the most extraordinary and famous people were born with a strong 8th house or a Stellium, and they probably mastered their hidden potential — no doubt! So take a look at your chart once again and see what your 8th house reveals about your secret power in your relationship with this world and its inhabitants.

I have a stellium in Scorpio in the eighth house between 1-5 Degrees.
Jupiter, Neptune, North node and Moon. Your interpretations are extremely accurate. Also a 12th house Sun, Chiron conjunction.
Yep – Bringing the divine into now and onto the planet. The more darkness we experience, the more light we become and the potential for love and joy is real. It takes many years though and not a walk in the park!

Do you really think so, that the 8th House is that of the Secret Power? I have Jupiter, Sun, Mercury,Venus, Pluto and Uranus on the 8th House, plus Mars and Neptune in Scorpio. So, for me is like a double whammy, lessons learned here have been harsh, control surrendered, there is need to resurrect constantly. Some times I wish things where simple and carefree….Right now I have Pluto in the Asc, so intensity has become my second name….All in all, I think 8th house is a mix between the Birth of Compassion and the Development of the Soul Inner Will.

Yes, I think so, as houses carry many meanings and aren’t one-dimensional.

I’ve recently been looking at my 8th harmonic and I have a lovely kite formation. The power and gifts I’m bringing are definitely stemming from an 8th house perspective.

Thanks for your article! I have my Sun, Venus, Mars and Mercury all in 8th house in Leo, Moon in exact conjunction with Jupiter in Taurus (4th house) and Chiron in Gemini (7th house).
My job has been related to investigating other people’s traumatic experiences and I discovered that I have a talent in going very deep in other people’s souls and making them open up and trust. I have also been able to locate indicators of traumatic experiences in their lives sometimes even by just looking at them. A great deal of this talent I believe that is caused because I have been examining my own traumatic experiences very thoroughly since childhood, so I can recognize the signs. I feel my job as being brought to me by fate, but it comes with a great loss of carefreeness, something that I don’t really regret.
I wouldn’t say I ever aspired to be rich and certainly don’t pick my partners according to their affluence according to the traditional explanation of 8th house. Your beautiful analysis of the 8th house is very close to what I am experiencing, I would say that sometimes the 8th house is connected with a person’s quest for wisdom, not in an airy way of the spiritual sphere and the cosmos, but through navigating the dark depths of human experience.
    Thanks again!

Your article is amazing I stumbled across it looking for information I have to deal with the 8th house inheritance.

I am 8th house stellium, sun, moon mercury,Venus, Jupiter, Neptune. Pisces rising. North Node Pisces.

Sometimes I wonder I’m just an old soul but however every time I go through a transition in a lesson learned I figure out a way to learn a lesson and move forward in life where I have the freedom to create the environment and put in the life that I want as I approach 50 at the end of this year my grandmother and my mom passed away I inherited some of their esoteric spiritual gifts.

After 18 years of the career field in human resources and then being married for 20 years two grown kids divorced 11 years and I am a caregiver for my dad but however the opportunity for freedom because a lot of the things that I’ve enjoyed in life I really greatly appreciate it from owning homes are traveling with you being able to be around family and my life has become full circle so now moving forward are use my gift to let others now they can heal themselves whether it’s through self-expression are more encouraging and inspiring people to reach their dreams and goals and it’s never too late and thank you for the article it’s funny and lightning and something to look forward to Scorpio sometime and get a bad rap but I don’t see why I look at it like this you can use your hidden gifts to change the world to make it better for the good of yourself and also for the good of others.

    Thank you,
