Say It Loud, Say It Proud: Mars in Leo, 1 July to 18 August, 2019

By Agent 17, Armand Diaz

On the first day of July, Mars strides into Leo for a six-week stay. In the sign of the lion, Mars tends to be his usual fiery self, but somewhat less impetuous than we find him in other signs. Certainly, he’ll be glad to be out of the cool waters of Cancer and in a sign where he can function more easily as himself.

The first half of July is packed with high energy astrological events, including solar and lunar eclipses in addition to some very hot aspects. Mars misses out on much of the direct action, but he’ll surely be adding to things even if he isn’t making aspects. Times when the Moon is aspecting Mars, and even the daily rising, culminating, and setting of the warrior planet hold potential for Martial action.

Mars likes to move fast, especially in a Fire sign, but his first encounters are with two celestial bodies that are stationed to retrograde. He meets with Mercury on the 8th, just a day after the Cosmic Messenger turns around in Leo. This could be a time when folks are inclined to blurt out something that they’ll have to take back and reword at a later time.

Actions may speak louder than words around the 11th, when Mars trines stationed Chiron and then squares Uranus. The previous few days are likely to be felt as a testing time, as the Sun opposes Saturn while Chiron stops to retrograde in Mars’ home sign of Aries. Tensions build leading up to the 11th, when we’re likely find release of one kind or another. While the potential for constructively ‘breaking out of the box’ is certainly there, more erratic acts of rebellion are also a possibility. Be careful driving, and in general take care around others.

Mars trines Jupiter on July 25th, an aspect that suggests putting on a show – perhaps a military parade, either literally or metaphorically. Certainly, we’re likely to see a proud display of arms, and some folks will be ready to show that their rhetoric is backed up by strength.

The Fire signs of Leo, Aries, and Sagittarius have the best opportunities for working with Mars in Leo. Lions are generally energized, while Rams will find that creativity and passions are ignited. Sagittarius can use the Leonine vibe for travel – in the mind or literally.

Of the Earth signs, Taurus is likely to have the most to deal with as Mars moves through Leo. With Uranus already shaking things up, Mars adds a little extra potential action into the mix. Home and family may require more attention than usual, and there could be some conflicts. Remember that the quest for stability shouldn’t trump all other considerations.

Virgo and Capricorn feel the vibe much more obliquely, and in fact could have trouble getting a handle on what’s happening. Virgo can feel irritation from unknown sources, while Capricorn may have to deal with financial situations that are not of their own making. Mountain goats should be careful of matters around debt, insurance, and taxes – especially with Mercury retrograde in the same sector of their charts.

Water signs will also have some challenges along with potentials. Scorpios can use the transit of Mars through Leo to focus on career, although they may have little choice but to pay attention to this area. Cancer will need to pay attention to finances, and a proactive approach to making and keeping money is a good idea. Pisces may have to deal with a coworker, and might generally focus on health and wellbeing.

Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, the Air signs, have a very constructive potential with Mars in Leo. Gemini can apply the energy in the area of communication, and may find that it’s easier than usual to get a point across (even with their ruler, Mercury, retrograde). Libra will find that this transit is good for socializing, in person or on social media, and it’s an overall good time for networking. Aquarius is likely to see things play out in the area of relationships, where there could be a little friendly competition.
