Forward March! – Mars Retrograde Ends in Scorpio
Agent 17 Armand Diaz
Mars Ends His Retrograde in Scorpio and Heads for Sagittarius!
After ten weeks of doing the backstroke through the murky waters of Scorpio, Mars ended his retrograde on June 29th and resumed direct motion. As July begins, the Cosmic Warrior is moving forward, but slowly, and some of the headaches and delays associated with the retrograde may persist through at least the first half of July. While we’re probably eager to get going with many things, a bit of patience (and a bit is all you’re likely to have) is recommended – we may be ready to run but Mars will be keeping it to a slow jog. The mutable grand cross – now a loose t-square – continues to inject some uncertainty, making decisions and gaining traction even more difficult.
Throughout July, Mars will be swimming through the last degrees of Scorpio – and the tail end of the scorpion is the business end. Mars will be helping to clear out issues that have been lurking behind the scenes since late 2014 and the summer of 2015, when Saturn was in the sign. Many of the Saturn-in-Scorpio issues centered on sexuality, power and control, and financial tensions. Expect that these may re-emerge at both the individual and collective levels.
More recent tensions that were prominent just before Mars stopped to retrograde on April 17th are also likely to return for additional processing. Look back to what was happening from mid-February to mid-April and see what has come back for another round, and expect that things could be resolved in the beginning of August. Remember that Mars is at home in Scorpio, where he plays defense rather than offense – accordingly there may be a tendency towards suspicion and overprotectiveness in July.
Mars starts connecting with the other planets early in his forward motion. A trine with Venus on the 6th might seem to offer some especially good relationship energy, especially with the waxing Leo moon in the background. But with the goddess in Cancer and the warrior in Scorpio the mood may be more protective than playful – and patience could be low with the sun opposing Pluto while Venus goes on the square Uranus.
An awkward quincunx between Mars and Uranus highlights the time around the 14th. With eccentric Uranus in Mars’ first home, Aries, the two might be expected to get along well, and indeed there is potential for agreement. The challenge around this time is to balance the desire to go forward with a lingering sense of caution – emphasized by the moon joining Mars in Scorpio. The sun’s trine to Mars two days later helps to bolster the warrior’s energy, although it is focused more on clan and community than personal benefit.
As the month ends, things get hot indeed, as Mercury squares Mars while Uranus stations to retrograde on the 29th. Patience will be at a premium during the days leading up to these aspects, and we’re likely to mouth off longer and louder than usual. A kind of my-way-or-the-highway attitude is likely to prevail, and it could be difficult for others to see your perspective, and for you to see theirs. By all means, express what you’re thinking and feeling, but try to keep focused on present issues rather than past wounds that may still be hurting – the guy who runs over your toe with the shopping cart today isn’t the kid who stole your bicycle in third grade.
Patience is the keyword for July. After being counseled to be patient through the two and half months of Mars’ retrograde, we may be little inclined to move in slow motion as he goes direct. Still, each thing unfolds at its own pace, and even impulsive Mars has to take it slow sometimes.
