January Overview and briefing on 2023:

Mercury retrograde in Capricorn, December 29 to January 18:

The holiday chaos caused by weather extremes, will soon be in the rear-view mirror, but it will not be soon forgotten – not for a long stretch. (My heart goes out to those suffering through devastating loss.) Thanks to Mercury at the start of a retrograde cycle, expect for the clean up, repair, and recovery to be a slow go. Delays, long waits, or time extensions are to be expected. Facing an uphill battle? You could exert more effort than is typical, warranted, or productive.

In effect from December 29 to January 18, Mercury retrograde in Capricorn puts the focus on (mistakes of) the past, on things beyond control, and on the necessity to get things under better control. Welcome to the school of life! (What has been experienced through the second half of December has demonstrated the potency of Mercury’s pre- retrograde influence.) The Mercury retrograde cycle is best used to reassess and reprioritise, to get real about what is working and what is not.

Having outlined the above, Mercury retrograde, Venus, and Pluto are teamed up through the end of December and into the first of January. Despite the retrograde influence, this trio could change the score. Hopefully, it is in a productive and advancing way. A new priority, option, or prospect could set into play. Additional, previously missed or omitted information could surface. Pay close attention to instincts and intuition. The transits naturally prompt you to evaluate, feel, see, and think along new lines.

Incorporating a full moon in Cancer (January 6), January 5 through 9 provides good synchronicity for conversation and communication, the discovery track, problem solving, and inspired moments. You could make a positive breakthrough for yourself or regarding a circumstance or relationship issue. Whether you simply get clear about your next steps or act, January 11 could be decisive or threshold crossing.

Mars in Gemini ends retrograde on January 12:

Have you found yourself in a quandary, i.e., on the two steps forward, one step back routine, or spinning wheels and getting nowhere? You will soon find gain a clearer sense of direction and better mileage. Having said that, although Mars in Gemini ends a two- and one-half month retrograde cycle on January 12, Mercury retrograde extends for another week. Some things are going to move along, others are going to take more time.

Extreme Super New Moon in Aquarius, January 21:

January 18 -22 could be a fast-track or springboard few days.  It is the peak of the month. Here is the run down of planetary activity: January 18, Mercury retrograde ends. Also on this same day, sun/Pluto join creative forces to advance their demolition and build it better mandate. January 20, the sun enters Aquarius. January 21, an extreme super new moon rises in Aquarius. January 22, Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, ends a five-month retrograde cycle. Also on this day, Venus/Saturn in Aquarius team up (by conjunction). An apt influence for the start of the Chinese New Year of the Water Rabbit, consider Venus/Saturn as officially signing off on the previous year and officially launching the next. They set a backdrop of “that was yesterday, this is now.” This run of transits marks the start of so much more to come. The extreme super new moon cycle is set to accelerate the breakthrough and reinvention process. It could jettison you into something unexpected. It sets a good backdrop for branching out, and for taking a risk on professional, personal, or life-style reinvention. Weather extremes often coincide with super moon activities. It is also a propensity for Uranus and Aquarius. Watch these few days for exceptional announcements or surprising news. (Aquarius correlates to science, technology, space, and aviation, medical breakthroughs, social and political movements, protests, terrorism, radicalism, and more.)

The year ahead is but an introduction to a radical personal and global reinvention. March is the kick off month with Saturn’s advance into Pisces, the end of seven months of Mars retrograde, and the start of Pluto’s first foray into Aquarius. In coming weeks, I will be producing a podcast and lecturing on the year ahead. Stay tuned!
